Kimberly Montez, MD, MPH, FAAP, associate professor of pediatrics, was recently honored with the Pediatric Excellence Award for Outstanding Community Service at the 2024 annual meeting of the North Carolina Pediatric Society (NCPeds).
The award recognizes Montez’s exceptional work in addressing equity and social determinants of health while also demonstrating excellence as a clinician, researcher and educator.
In her six-year tenure with the School of Medicine, Montez has served as advocacy director and associate program director for the pediatrics residency, created the Health Justice Advocacy Certificate, conducted research on health equity, diversity and inclusion and currently serves as associate dean of Justice and Belonging on the Winston-Salem campus.
NCPeds is the North Carolina affiliate Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Its mission is to improve the health of all children throughout North Carolina and support the pediatric professionals who care for them.
