Whether you are in Wake Forest Innovation Quarter or on the Winston-Salem Campus, the School of Medicine has a variety of facilities and services to meet the needs of our students, faculty and researchers. From studying to eating, from working out to mailing a package, we have you covered.

Fitness Centers

Located in the 525@vine building, the Innovation Quarter YMCA features a 10,000 square foot state-of-the-art wellness facility, personal trainers, cycle studio, free weights and a cardio area. Check the program schedule to see what classes are taking place in the group exercise studio, too.

The Hanes Fitness Center, located on the E-Floor of the Hanes Building on the Winston-Salem Campus, is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Membership is free for all School of Medicine students. For a minimal fee, membership is also available to Wake Forest Baptist Health employees, spouses of employees and students, and hospital volunteers.

For those who prefer exercising outdoors, Bailey Park in Innovation Quarter offers outdoor yoga in warm months, and a community greenway winds through the area.

A variety of dining options satisfies everything from morning coffee runs to full meals to snacks for studying. Innovation Quarter’s offerings include:

When you’re at the Winston-Salem Campus, your options include Fresh Inspirations Café, Chick-Fil-A, Au Bon Pain and Subway, as well as Starbucks and the café in the Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Textbooks, medical books, medical equipment and other items can be purchased online through WFU's University Store. The virtual bookstore offers additional textbook choices for students including new, used, rental and loose-leaf editions, with the ability to price compare online. Items can be shipped directly to students, faculty and staff.

Before buying a book, be sure you understand the return policies, since many books cannot be returned to the distributor after purchase. Early purchase of texts by first-year students is discouraged because course requirements can change, and consultation with other students may enhance wise and frugal acquisition of books.

Caps and gowns, class rings, white coats for medical students, and so forth will be handled by onsite representatives. The University Stores also carry Medical School memorabilia and gifts online.

Child Care

Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center provides a child care center for the children of Medical Center employees. Bright Horizons Child Care Center accepts children between the ages of 6 weeks and 5 years.

Bright Horizons is a 5-star child care center, the highest achievement in North Carolina, and is conveniently located near the Winston-Salem Campus. Once you have made a decision to enroll, you will need to pay a nonrefundable registration fee and pick up an enrollment packet.

The Center is open 6 am to 6:15 pm, Monday through Friday. The cost of placing a child in the Center is automatically payroll deducted and varies based on the age of the child and hours of care. To receive more information or put your child’s name on the waiting list, call 336-716-0300.
