Wake Forest University School of Medicine welcomed 145 new medical students during the annual White Coat Ceremony in Wait Chapel. During this event, first-year medical students received their white coats which signifies the start of their journeys to become physicians.

The Class of 2028 joins us from 29 states and 72 different undergraduate institutions. Over the next few weeks, students will continue to meet their new classmates, deans and faculty and begin their training.

During the ceremony, leaders convey to students that the white coat symbolizes the values of compassion, trust, inclusion and service – and the highest standards of excellence and professionalism in medicine.

MD White Coat Ceremony

“Everything that the white coat stands for is consistent with our mission at Wake Forest University School of Medicine,” said Dean Boulware. “My own white coat still reminds me that I have a calling to help and a responsibility to care for all patients – of all backgrounds and experiences – just the way I’d want my own loved ones to be cared for.”

PA Program White Coat Ceremony

The PA program recently hosted its white coat ceremony at Wait Chapel. The ceremony honored 79 rising second-year students who started their clinical rotations earlier this week. Students from the Class of 2025 came to the PA program from 22 states and with an average of 3,390 hours of direct patient care. We wish them the best as they take their knowledge and skills to deliver compassionate, patient-centered care alongside their preceptors and teams.
