Congratulations, MD Class of 2024!
Match Day is one of the most momentous days in a medical student's journey to becoming a doctor. Match Day is a long-time tradition that is followed by medical schools across the county where students simultaneously open their envelopes. Each year on the third Friday in March, fourth-year medical students across the country wait in anticipation for the clock to strike noon. They excitedly open envelopes with their names to learn where they "matched" for the next three to seven years of residency training.
Our medical students opened their envelopes at noon on March 15, 2024, at Biotech Place in downtown Winston-Salem and celebrated with family, friends and School of Medicine faculty and teammates. The majority of the Class of 2024 entered medical school in July 2020 – the first class to enter into medical school after the pandemic started – and these students have spent their entire medical education journey in a COVID-19 and post-COVID-19 era.
Congratulations to all medical students who matched!
