Application Process

Applicants interested in pursuing the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Residency program must apply through the ERAS and applicants must register with the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) to be ranked. Candidates who are selected to interview will be notified by email of available interview dates. We follow the ACEPS Interview Policy.

Deadline

Applicants should have all information uploaded by September 25.

Required Documents

As part of the PSCA process, prospective residents will need to submit the following documentation:

  • Completed ERAS application
  • USMLE Step I, and II (Required for both MD and DO Medical Students)
  • MSPE uploaded by their school's Deans Office
  • Medical School Transcript
  • ECFMG Certification (Foreign Medical School graduates only)
  • Personal statement or letter of interest explaining career choice and goals
  • Three or four letters of recommendation
  • Current photograph (Preferred but not required)

Information for Visiting Students

Prospective students must apply through the Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO) via the online application.

We encourage visiting students to participate in all aspects of the Plastic Surgery service, including inpatient and outpatient operative experiences, individualized time with the attendings in clinic, journal club and all departmental conferences.

Plastic Surgery Sub-Internship (Sub-I) Scholarship Information

The Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Wake Forest University School of Medicine offers two annual scholarships to support visiting fourth-year medical students who wish to complete a four-week Sub-Internship (Sub-I) in our ACGME-accredited Plastic Surgery program. These scholarships are designed to assist with housing, travel, and meal expenses, providing up to $1,500 in reimbursement for eligible students.The Sub-I experience is structured to deliver an immersive educational opportunity, exposing students to all aspects of plastic surgery and fostering strong connections with current house staff and faculty.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the Plastic Surgery Sub-I Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a fourth-year U.S. medical student in good standing at a medical school accredited by the Liaison Committee for Medical Education (LCME) or the Education Department of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
  • Have applied to and been accepted for a four-week Sub-I experience through the Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO) platform.

Application Process

Once notified of acceptance into the Sub-I experience, students should submit the following application materials to betsy.wilson@advocatehealth.org as soon as possible:

  • A 300-word personal statement describing your interest in the scholarship.
  • An updated CV, including any submitted or accepted publications, presentations, awards, and extracurricular or voluntary work.

We will utilize the Letter of Recommendation (LOR), USMLE transcript, and Medical School transcript submitted with your VSLO application.

Award Details and Reimbursement

  • Each scholarship recipient is eligible for up to $1,500 in reimbursement for housing, travel, and meal expenses.
  • Receipts must be submitted for travel and lodging expenses to be reimbursed and must be submitted within 30 days of being awarded the scholarship for reimbursement.
