Student Services Support was established in 1993 with funds from the NC General Assembly to strengthen support for primary care, community-based education.
Student Services was created at each of the nine regional AHECs to help facilitate the teaching of primary care students in ambulatory settings. The program's primary focus is on medical, nurse practitioner, certified nurse midwifery, pharm D and physician assistant students.
Student Services responsibilities include:
- Assisting schools with preceptor recruitment and student placements.
- Promoting and providing information resources to preceptors.
- Arranging student housing for community-based rotations (AHEC housing is not limited to these students but Student Services staff often serve as the primary housing coordinators at the local AHECs).
