“The most influential aspects of my fellowship experience were the dedicated mentors, time to publish manuscripts, and ability to collect pilot data that served as the foundation for grant applications. Mentors from this program took the time to strengthen my ideas, welcomed me to join their research teams, connected me to their networks, and contributed to my applications for opportunities that resulted in funding, specialized training, and a faculty position. The impacts of this generous support for my research and career trajectory continued far beyond the formal fellowship period.”

“My postdoctoral fellowship was pivotal for my academic career. I completed the Cancer Prevention and Control Postdoctoral Fellowship in 2016, at which time I transitioned to a tenure track Assistant Professor Position. I chose this postdoctoral position because it provided an opportunity to develop my own program of research. It opened my eyes to the endless possibilities of team science and motivated me to think more creatively about how I approached a scientific problem. A big success was an NCI-funded R03 award that I wrote during my postdoctoral fellowship and was funded at the start of my faculty position. I’m grateful that I had the opportunity to kickstart my program of research during this time with invested and supportive mentors.”

“The Wake Forest Cancer Prevention and Control T32—and the exceptional mentorship I received—was truly transformative for my career. Through this program, I strengthened my publication record, secured K99/R00 funding, and built lasting collaborations that continue to shape my success. I highly recommend this opportunity for recent graduates looking to enhance their research skills and CV before transitioning to a faculty role.”

“I was extremely honored and excited to be accepted into the Wake Forest - Cancer Prevention and Control post-doctoral training program in 2015. Among numerous strengths of the program, a focus on providing comprehensive training that includes opportunities to work with and learn from highly regarded faculty, access to data and biostatistical support for publishing manuscripts, funding to present at national conferences, and to collect pilot data critical for grant development and submission really stand out. Thanks to my post-doc and exceptional mentors, I could not have felt more ready to begin a faculty position and to continue my work in cancer prevention and control!”
