Orthopaedic APP Fellowship Program Application Process

The fellowship is a 12-month program and specific starting date is personalized to the accepted applicant. There is potential opportunity to host two fellows, staggered six months apart.

Prerequisite Training

Physician Assistant applicants must have graduated from an accredited PA program and passed the PANCE certification exam.

Nurse Practitioner applicants must have graduated from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program and pass either the American Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB) or American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner OR Family Nurse Practitioner certification examination as well as possess a RN First assist certification.

The following are required from all applicants for consideration as an Orthopedic APP Fellow:

  • A Curriculum Vitae
  • One-page Statement of Interest in postgraduate fellowship training in the specialty you are applying for
  • PA / NP Graduate Transcripts (unofficial transcripts accepted for current student applicants)
  • A recent, professional in nature passport-size photograph (jpeg format*)
  • Three written Letters of Recommendation (PDF Version)
  • One from a Physician
  • One from an APP mentor or colleague (APP preceptor, mentor, etc.)
  • One from either:
    • NP/PA Faculty Member (required for new graduates with no work experience)
    • APP mentor or colleague (recommended for those with working experience)

The following requirements are to be submitted upon entry into the Fellowship program as all are necessary requirements for credentialing:

  • Completion of an accredited PA or NP master's program
  • Pass the PA or NP National board examination
  • Obtain state licensure as a PA or NP
  • Obtain DEA licensure
  • Obtain NPI number
  • Successfully pass an employment background check, provide necessary immunization records, and drug screening

The number of fellows accepted into the Atrium Health APP Fellowship is determined solely by Atrium Health.

Applicants must upload all required documentation with their application to the Orthopedic APP Fellowship.
