Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist offers two positions per year in the Integrated IR/DR residency program. The focus of the six-year program (including internship) is to develop an exceptional diagnostic radiology foundation upon which trainees will learn to plan and execute proficient and safe image-guided interventions. In addition, our program provides comprehensive Interventional Radiology training for future clinician interventionalists.

The Integrated IR/DR residency is a clinically oriented residency incorporating:
  • Diagnostic Radiology
  • Interventional Radiology
  • Clinical Management of Patients
The residency is a categorical program which requires completion of a surgical internship at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

Our residents then complete a five-year curriculum that begins with basic radiology imaging interpretation and advances through increasingly complicated imaging studies and image-guided interventions.

The PGY-5 and PGY-6 years are predominantly spent on the Interventional Radiology service. We focus on clinical management that comes by way of integrated clinical rotations interspersed throughout the residency including:

  • Critical Care
  • Vascular Surgery
  • Hepatology
  • Medical Oncology

Our trainees actively participate in outpatient clinics and inpatient consultations while advancing through Interventional Radiology rotations.
