Going the Extra Yard for Concussion Safety
Wake Forest University School of Medicine researchers set out to improve the safety of youth football and found that head impacts can drastically be reduced by changing practice drills. This first-of-its-kind study has provided league officials, coaches and other health professionals across the country with new techniques and guidelines on ways to avoid head impacts and improve the safety of young athletes.
This study also highlighted the importance of athletic trainers at school-aged sports practices and events. Atrium Health now has over 100 athletic trainers in its school program, making it the largest in North Carolina and one of the largest in the country. Read more about the study.
