Kannan completed his Ph.D. in Biological Science under the supervision of Dr. Souvik Maiti and Dr. Koyeli Mapa from the CSIR- Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (IGIB), India. He also constantly mentored by Dr. Kausik Chakraborty, at CSIR-IGIB during his Ph.D. tenure. His thesis study was focused on mitochondrial sub-compartment-specific misfolding induced stress response using yeast as a model system. In Tomar’s lab, he will be majorly focusing on the identification of mitochondrial unfolded protein response and mitochondrial protein quality control regulators in the mammalian system. Other than research, Kannan is interested in cooking, cycling, exploring new places, and reading books.
