About Me

I am Amy Bell, a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), specializing in Obstetrics and Gynecology (RNC-OB). As part of the Academic Faculty at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, I contribute to the Department of Academic Nursing. My journey here began as part-time faculty, and in January 2023, I transitioned to a full-time role. Before joining Wake full-time, I held the position of Assistant Vice President for Performance Improvement at Atrium Health in the Greater Charlotte Region, where I’ve dedicated 28 years of service.

My professional background spans 20 years in obstetrical care, including a decade as a nurse manager. Additionally, I have 10 years of experience in quality improvement. I earned my Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Duke University and completed my undergraduate and graduate studies in nursing at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

During my tenure at Atrium Health, I led initiatives aimed at reducing the nulliparous cesarean delivery rate and addressing obstetrical hemorrhage. My work has been recognized through publications, including a quality improvement article in the November 2017 issue of Obstetrics & Gynecology. I also coauthored the Blueprint for Advancing High-Value Maternity Care Through Physiologic Childbearing, published in June 2018.
As a national presenter, I’ve shared insights at conferences such as NAHQ, AWHONN, Premier, and IHI, as well as through webinars for the CMS’s Partnership for Patients, Premier, and AWHONN.

My involvement extends beyond clinical practice. I served as a standing member of the National Quality Forum (NQF) Perinatal and Reproductive Health Team from 2016 to 2022. In 2014, I contributed to the NQF Maternity Action Team, focusing on strategies to reduce early elective deliveries. My dedication to quality earned me the 2016 Quality Professional of the Year Award from the North Carolina Association for Healthcare Quality (NCAHQ). Additionally, I was recognized as an Emerging Leader by the National Association for Women’s Health, Obstetrics, and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) in 2016.
I am proud to have served as a board member for NCAHQ, contributing to the advancement of healthcare quality. My commitment remains steadfast as I continue to make a positive impact on patient care and healthcare systems.
