Prospective Medical Students Attend Open Houses in Winston-Salem and Charlotte

December 19, 2024

Around 50 prospective medical students recently visited the School of Medicine’s Winston-Salem and Charlotte campuses for two open houses, hosted by the Office of Admissions. This joint event was one of the first initiatives to introduce potential students to both campuses. Participants began the morning in Charlotte and then traveled to Winston-Salem.

“The success of our recent open houses in Winston-Salem and Charlotte reflects our mission of a 'One School, Two Campus' approach,” said Daryl Rosenbaum, M.D., senior associate dean of M.D. admissions. “Together, both campuses create a synergy and corridor that will continue to build upon the School of Medicine’s proven success of providing academic excellence and clinical opportunities for the next generation of physicians.”

Prospective students had the opportunity to speak with members of the admissions team, learn more about the curriculum at each campus, participate in small-group activities with faculty members and engage in medical student panels with current students from both campuses. Participants also toured the Bowman Gray Center for Medical Education, where the Winston-Salem campus is located, and joined a campus blueprint tour of the Charlotte campus which is set to open in 2025 within The Pearl innovation district.

In July 2025, 48 first-year medical students will make history as the first class to start at the Charlotte campus. The Winston-Salem campus will be home to 145 first-year students. The Charlotte campus has educated third- and fourth-year School of Medicine students since 2022 and will gradually increase its class size over the next five years.
