Thank you for your interest in our fellowship program at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. We are an ACGME-accredited fellowship, offering one position per year.
Our section of pediatric gastroenterology has seven full-time faculty members and six advanced practice providers (APPs). Under the leadership of Dr. Safta, a nationally renowned leader in Celiac disease, our team continues to grow. Our faculty are actively involved in medical education and research, collaborating closely with our pediatric surgery and adult GI colleagues. We are a collegial group who enjoys each other’s company, and we believe that maintaining a work-life balance is key to a productive and fulfilling career in medicine.
Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center provides an ideal setting for training in pediatric gastroenterology and hematology. As a premier academic medical center serving a four-state referral area, fellows in our program provide care to patients on the inpatient service, outpatient GI clinics, and multidisciplinary clinics. Hepatology training is conducted at Levine Children’s in Charlotte, our affiliated hospital, under the directorship of Dr. Alisha Mavis. Endoscopic procedures are performed in our endoscopy suite or operating room, with assistance available 24 hours a day from skilled endoscopy personnel.
In addition to rigorous clinical training, fellows in our program will participate in traditional bench or clinical research, quality improvement, or translational research. Mentorship is provided starting early in the first year, giving fellows the opportunity to choose a research project that best meets their career goals.
We would be delighted for you to join our training program. We are committed to providing a world-class training experience while ensuring a fellow's emotional well-being. We love gastroenterology and we love to teach. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me via email at eprendaj@wakehealth.edu.
Warm regards,
