Amy Milner, MSN, RN-BC, DNP Candidate ’20, joined Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center (WFBH) as a new graduate, working on the renal unit. She received her master’s in nursing education in 2002, and started working in Nursing Education at WFBH that same year. Amy is proud to say that she is still working in the Nursing Education department to this day.
In her current role as a Nursing Professional Development Specialist, Amy coordinates the Nurse Extern Program and the Journeys New Graduate Program. She is also involved in projects with pharmacy and nursing that allow her to interact with employees at all the hospitals within the WFBH system, but Amy especially enjoys meeting and interacting with nursing students in the Nurse Extern Program. Amy is also the President of the Cardinal Affiliate of the Association for Nursing Professional Development and is very involved in the Association for Nursing Professional Development.
Why did you choose to get your DNP at Wake Forest?
“I had considered going back to school for several years, so when I saw that Wake Forest was offering a new DNP program I was immediately excited. Although it’s been a while since I have been in school and I was very nervous, I love to learn and was confident the program would expand my knowledge base to new and different aspects of nursing. I thoroughly enjoy being in a program with nurses from a variety of backgrounds, and enjoy the support I receive from professors and classmates. They have all encouraged me, and I am honored to be a part of the program. I look forward to seeing the program grow”, Amy says.
