At the Department of Ophthalmology at the Wake Forest School of Medicine, we’re training the next generation of specialists in eye care. Our department offers a robust resident training program in comprehensive ophthalmology in addition to fellowships in cornea and external disease, retina-vitreous disease, and oculofacial plastic and orbital surgery.

Ophthalmology Residency Program
Our residency program immerses residents in our comprehensive care clinic and inpatient consultation service at a Level I trauma center with high-volume surgical experience.

Cornea Fellowship
A one-year surgical and clinical fellowship, which is broad-based in all aspects of medical and surgical experience including transplantation, DSEK, DMEK, DALK, LASIK and refractive cataract surgery.

Retina Fellowship
A two-year program preparing fellows for an academic or private practice career in Vitreoretinal Surgery through outstanding clinical, research and teaching opportunities.

Fourth-year medical students will learn about medical and surgical management of ophthalmic pathology —acute and chronic, common and complex.
