I am a basic and translational researcher focusing on metabolomics analysis of human disease including cancer, metabolic and pulmonary diseases. Our goal is to develop mass spectrometry based methods to assess disease states and elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying that state. I am a member of multiple centers, including the Center for Precision Medicine, Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Tobacco Control Center of Excellence, which helps facilitate multidisplinary collaborations with both basic researchers and clinical scientists.
The Bishop laboratory utilizes metabolomics approaches to identify and track metabolic changes as a result of disease initiation, progression and treatment. This work focuses on both biased and unbiased metabolite analysis of bio-volatiles and biofluids in biological systems ranging from cell-based experiments to patient samples.
