The Department of Translational Neuroscience (formerly known as the departments of Physiology and Pharmacology and Neurobiology and Anatomy) is home to world-class investigators whose shared mission is multidisciplinary research and training that advances neuroscientific discovery and promotes brain health across the lifespan. Infinitely complex and ever-changing, the brain is still relatively uncharted territory, but protecting and enhancing brain health is perhaps the most important mission of science and medicine today.
Our faculty are international leaders in alcohol and substance use disorders (psychostimulants, opioids, tobacco, cannabis), cognition, sensory perception and multisensory integration, neurodegeneration including Alzheimer’s disease, epilepsy, stress and PTSD, sleep and biological rhythms, and much more, who use translational animal models and human experimentation to conduct cutting-edge research.
We are dedicated to discovery in basic and translational neuroscience, excellence in training the next generation of scientists and physicians, and leadership in service to the scientific community and to the public.
