The Wake Forest Center for Biomedical Informatics is seeking tenure-track Assistant and Associate Professor faculty members with research interests in Biomedical Informatics. The mission of the Center for Biomedical Informatics is to contribute to Wake Forest Baptist Health’s evolution as an academic learning health system and to foster better health across the patient populations served by Wake Forest Baptist Health and the nation by advancing and promoting informatics research, service and education.

Successful applicants will possess an MD and/or PhD degree in a related discipline. The level of academic appointment will be commensurate with candidates’ experience. This is an outstanding opportunity for individuals who desire to play a formative role in the development of a preeminent interdisciplinary program in biomedical informatics and to join a dynamic and growing academic medical center.

Ideal candidates will have the expertise and prior training to establish a research program to develop novel methods in informatics or innovative applications of existing methods. Research may focus on a range of areas across the spectrum of biomedical informatics, including clinical informatics, translational informatics, medical informatics, public health informatics, imaging informatics, natural language processing or high-performance computing/big data science.

In addition to conducting independent research, faculty members will be expected to collaborate with existing investigative teams to improve the capacity to use complex data sets to answer research questions. This includes the use of informatics and predictive analytics to support the delivery of high-value, population-based care by Wake Forest Baptist Health. Candidate will be recruited in tandem by the Center for Biomedical Informatics and other departments, which will provide primary and/or secondary academic appointments.

Specific expectations for the position include:

  • Establish a strong track record of scholarship and an independently funded research program in developing or applying computational tools or approaches for the use of biomedical, medical and health data.
  • Support the informatics needs of and effectively collaborate with other clinical, translational, and health services research teams.
  • Mentor trainees and junior faculty and teach biomedical informatics at various levels.
  • Identify opportunities to integrate expertise across disparate teams and data sources to create new synergies.
  • Assume supervisory responsibility of scientific staff, including recruitment, mentoring and staff development.
  • Serve as an institutional resource in a salient area of specialized expertise, develop and maintain external visibility, and participate in national/international biomedical informatics professional societies.

To apply, please send a curriculum vitae, cover letter expressing interest in the position, and the names of three references to WFBMI@wakehealth.edu.

Wake Forest Baptist Health is an equal opportunity employer with a strong commitment to achieving diversity among its faculty and staff.
