The Winston-Salem campus recently welcomed approximately 80 prospective medical students to its Second Look weekend. This event offers accepted applicants greater insight into academic programming and unique opportunities offered by the School of Medicine.
Participants kicked off the weekend with a social and then explored the campus, enjoyed a trolley tour of downtown Winston-Salem that was led by current medical students and learned the various ways students are supported in and out of the classroom.
Prospective medical students were also introduced to unique offerings the Winston-Salem campus provides like the DEAC Clinic, a student-run and physician-staffed free clinic for patients who have no insurance and are ineligible for Medicaid. Attendees were also exposed to the CEAL lab which provides hands-on immersive and simulation learning for current and future clinical professionals.
“Second Look provides accepted applicants a deeper understanding of the School of Medicine’s environment and culture,” said Daryl Rosenbaum, M.D., senior associate dean of M.D. admissions. “This event helps to assist students and their families in making an informed decision about where they want to attend medical school. We look forward to hosting another Second Look for prospective medical students at our new Charlotte campus in the coming weeks.”
