Rebecca Sappington, PhD, Associate Professor, Neurobiology and Anatomy and Ophthalmology, was elected to a three-year term on the Annual Meeting Planning Committee (AMPC) for the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO).
ARVO is the largest and most respected eye and vision research organization in the world. Its members include nearly 11,000 researchers from over 75 countries. Rebecca was elected to the AMPC as a representative of the Glaucoma section by membership vote. She has devoted her entire career to understanding mechanisms of optic nerve degeneration in age-related disease, particularly glaucoma. Her work is supported by funding from the National Eye Institute and foundations such as Research to Prevent Blindness, Inc. She currently serves on several editorial boards, scientific advisory boards, and grant review panels. She is also the Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Ophthalmology.
