Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship Application Process

We accept applications from physicians trained in family medicine, internal medicine, emergency medicine, internal medicine and pediatrics (Meds-Peds). Preference is given to family medicine-trained applicants.

Two positions are available each year. Fellowship begins July 1.

Application Process

Residents interested in pursuing the Primary Care Sports Medicine program are required to apply using the Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS) and the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP). Candidates who match will be notified by email of available dates to schedule an interview.

  2. Register with the NRMP

Required Documents

As part of the SAFAS process, prospective fellows will need to submit the following documentation:

  • USMLE Step I, II and III scores and/or COMLEX-USA 1, 2 and 3 scores
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Medical School Transcript
  • Exchange Commission of Foreign Medical Graduates certification (if applicable)
  • Personal statement or letter of interest explaining career choice and goals
  • Three letters of recommendation, one of which should be from the applicant's residency program director. Letter of recommendations should be on letterhead and signed
  • Current photograph

Interview Process

Invitations for interviews will be sent through ERAS or email by the Fellowship Coordinator. Interviews may be conducted; in-person, virtually, or a combination of the two.

Interview Dates

Interviews will begin immediately upon the application deadline and the interview season will last until the end of November.

Foreign Medical Graduates

We accept foreign medical graduates into our program. We look for well qualified candidates and prefer applicants that have had U.S. clinical experience within the application year. International medical graduates must have completed an ACGME-accredited residency in Family Medicine, Med-Peds, Internal Medicine or Emergency Medicine to be considered for an interview. If you need work authorization, our institution accepts J-1 Visas, Employment Authorization Documentation (EAD) and green cards.
