The Family Medicine Residency Program at Wake Forest University School of Medicine is a three-year accredited program that accepts ten residents per year.
Application Process
Students interested in pursuing the Family Medicine Residency program are required to apply using the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP) and include the documents listed below.

Required Documents
As part of the ERAS process, prospective residents will need to submit the following documentation:
- Completed ERAS application
- USLME Step I and 2 (if available) are required for MD Medical Students and/or COMLEX 1 and 2 (if available) are required for DO Medical Students
- MSPE uploaded by their school's Dean's Office
- Medical School Transcript
- ECFMG Certification (Foreign Medical School graduates only)
- Personal statement
- Three letters of recommendation
- Current photograph (Preferred but not required)
Additional Application Materials
While your application will tell us a lot about your academic and professional background, we want to know more about who YOU ARE as a person. To achieve this, we ask that you submit a poem, video (no more than 2 minutes), essay (no more than 300 words), or other creative manner that tells us about YOU. We want to know where you grew up, things you are proud of including accomplishments, interests outside of school, your passions, creative or unusual things you've done and what you are thinking of doing beyond your residency. We would love to also know how we as a program can help you achieve your goals!

Interview Process
Candidates who are selected to interview will be notified by email of available dates to schedule an interview starting October 4, 2024. Interview day schedule and highlights will be discussed once invited.
Foreign Medical Graduates
Foreign medical graduates must have passed the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) and USMLE exams. For more information, visit the ECFMG website. We sponsor J-1 visas only, which you must have at the time of your application.
