The Simulation Center at 525@Vine is housed within the Department of Academic Nursing at the downtown campus. This state-of-the-art facility was designed with the learner at the center. From the simulated operating room to the skills preparation laboratory, we replicate events and procedures as they would be experienced in the clinical setting.

The Simulation Center at 525@Vine was the first NBCRNA-recognized Testing Center for Phase II of the Reentry to Practice Program (2016), and was also the second simulation center in North Carolina to achieve the Society of Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) Full Accreditation, specializing in the areas of Teaching and Assessment.

SSH Society for Simulation in Healthcare

Simulation Team

Our simulation faculty were leaders in the first cohort that brought multidisciplinary healthcare simulation to Wake Forest as a combined effort by anesthesiology, surgery, and nursing. They were also among the first at our institution to obtain the Certified Healthcare Simulation Educators (CHSE) credential – recognizing proficiency and adherence to best practices in simulation education.

Mission

  • Enhance patient safety profiles of learners through the use of simulation.
  • Provide an enriching education through simulation which leads participants to embody passion for healthcare, commitment to professionalism, and stewardship of their profession.

Vision

  • To be recognized as a leader in innovative healthcare education by providing learning opportunities throughout the career of healthcare professionals.
  • Create pipeline and outreach programs that are designed to prepare and inspire students to pursue careers in healthcare related fields.

Strategic Plan

  • Impact healthcare learners through the strategic use of healthcare simulation education, assessment and research to improve quality and safety of care through improvement of healthcare outcomes.
  • We seek to accomplish this by: expanding our services to those seeking to enroll in the NBCRNA Reentry Program, provide superior simulation experiences to CRNA learners, and continual growth of our continuing education programs for advanced practice providers.

Simulation-based NBCRNA Skills Validation for Reentry to Practice

After completing the required 100 hours of continuing education and successfully passing the CPC Exam, NBCRNA Re-entry Program candidates may schedule a visit to a NBCRNA-recognized center to have their clinical skills validated in simulated testing scenarios. This experience is a required portion of the Reentry Program and is a great confidence-builder for CRNAs who have been out of practice. It is strongly recommended that candidates refresh on their ACLS and BLS prior to visiting the center. We require that candidates ACLS and BLS certifications will not expire no less than 6 months prior to their examination.

  • An introduction to simulation and the simulation environment
  • Current updates in the use of anesthesia machines, pharmacologic agents, and equipment
  • Five carefully-crafted scenarios that allow you to demonstrate the skills required for the NBCRNA Re-entry Program

Simulation Center Reviews

“My overall experience was beyond what I expected. All the staff and evaluators were professional, informative and kind. I was feeling extremely insecure about my abilities and they made sure to prepare me for the simulation exams and offered positive reinforcement throughout the process. I feel more prepared to go back to anesthesia practice then I did after I graduated from CRNA school. The high stress environment was not easy to endure, however it forced the knowledge I had in the back of my mind front and center and that makes me feel secure and prepared to join the workforce again.”

“Truly, this has been one of the most stressful experiences of my life, and your prompt, professional, and caring assistance did a lot to help me through it.  I couldn’t be more impressed with the ENTIRE Wake Forest team.”

“I really appreciated the instructors. It was difficult being in the reentry program; my confidence was low, and the instructors seemed to understand this, and were very patient. They allowed me room to grow and learn.”

“While it was a very stressful time for me, the staff at the Center were so supportive and helpful!”

“I felt the staff/faculty were really invested in my success - not only in the re-certification sim but also as I return to practice.”

“All staff and faculty members were calm, nonjudgmental, intelligent, and informative.”

“The staff are professional, knowledgeable and KIND.  And they treat us with respect.”
