In October 2010, Dr. Bret Nicks was appointed as the founding Assistant Dean of Global Health. As part of the global health strategic growth plans and with the generous support by the Broyhill Family Foundation, the position of Director of Global Health Education was created in August 2013. Dr. Avinash Shetty was selected and began serving in this role starting in October of that year.
The first affiliate faculty for global health were selected in July 2015, and that August Dr. Shetty took the reins from Dr. Nicks as the new Associate Dean of Global Health. He also continued as the Director of Global Health Education alongside the Office of Global Health Program Coordinator, Lynn Snyder.
