The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Wake Forest University School of Medicine offers a two-year postdoctoral Orthopaedic Physician Scientist Training Program that provides mentored and protected basic science research time before a clinical residency.
Participants will have the opportunity to:
- Have focused research time with no call obligations.
- Publish and present findings at research meetings.
- Participate in educational conferences.
- Receive mentoring from faculty, and provide mentoring to other residents and students.
- Opportunity to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy degree in the Wake Forest Graduate School of Arts and Sciences
All candidates must be U.S. medical school graduates or have received certification from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). Learn more about the Physician Scientist Training Program application process and how to apply.

Publications and Meetings
As a physician scientist, you’ll have many opportunities to publish as well as travel and present at international, national, regional and local scientific meetings. Each physician scientist is taught to navigate the peer review process with the help of basic science and clinical mentorship from the faculty.
