Research

In collaboration with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the pharmaceutical industry, the Rheumatology Section at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist and Wake Forest University School of Medicine offers our patients the chance to participate in high quality, world-class research studies. These studies offer new and possibly life-changing treatment options for our patients. Moreover, they give our patients the opportunity to be part of the scientific advancement towards better understanding and treatment of autoimmune diseases.

It is important to remember that treatment does not always mean medication. Treatment may also include lifestyle and behavioral modifications to improve one’s quality of life. As an example, the ongoing PRECICE study will test the utility of a web-based, pain self-management program to patients suffering from persistent musculoskeletal pain.

Building that understanding and offering new and better treatments requires a diverse population of patient volunteers. We prioritize patient safety in our quest for discoveries that will improve the understanding of autoimmune disorders and make the lives of our patients and their families better.
