Philanthropy Update
Several alumni who have established School of Medicine scholarships attended this year’s White Coat ceremony to celebrate the occasion with their respective scholars. Alumni attending were David Janeway, MD, House Staff ’90; Allen Van Dyke MD ’71; Carroll McCullough, widow of David McCullough, MD ’65; and Hamp Lefler, MD ’63.
Two undergraduate students from North Carolina A&T State University advanced their interest in research, microbiology and immunology through internships this summer at Wake Forest University School of Medicine.
Christian Mobley and Aaliyah Clough, two junior biology majors at N.C. A&T, took part in the Microbiology and Immunology Summer Research Internship for Undergraduates. The internships were arranged by Marlena Westcott, PhD, associate professor of microbiology and immunology, who helped secure support through the Dean’s Discretionary Fund.
The internships ran from June 1 through July 28, when the students presented research projects they had worked on. Mobley, who is interested in a biomedical career, worked with David Ornelles, PhD, associate professor of microbiology and immunology. Clough, who is CNA certified and works at Cone Health in Greensboro, wants to attend medical school in 2025 and hopes to work in pediatric emergency medicine in an underserved community.
