The Western North Carolina Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience is an organization of more than 100 neuroscientists dedicated to the study of the brain and brain diseases. We are a chapter of the national Society for Neuroscience, which has more than 37,000 members. Our chapter is based on the campus of Wake Forest University with affiliate members at UNC Greensboro, UNC Charlotte, Davidson College, Appalachian State University and Winston Salem State University.

Programs

The Western North Carolina Chapter depends on the financial support from individual members and organizations. Our members represent a wide variety of academic programs from both the Medical School and the undergraduate Reynolda campus.

These include the departments of:

Brain Education and Outreach

Each year, we reach thousands in the Piedmont Triad to inform you of the tangible benefits of brain research and how it connects to your life. We take our message to middle schools, high schools and to area children's museums. Each year, we sponsor seminars and symposia designed to bring the wonders of the brain to everyone. This effort is supported by volunteers and membership dues. We also accept support in the form of contributions from the community.

We currently have the following needs:

  • Sponsorship of symposia and speakers.
  • Funding for educational materials for outreach to middle and high school children.
