The Department of Radiation Oncology focuses on the education and training of radiation specialists through an accredited residency program, and conducts research in two key areas: Radiation Biology and Radiation (Medical) Physics. These Sections provide on hands training and in depth research in critical areas of research.
Radiation Biology
Radiation biology is the study of the underlying mechanisms of radiation-induced damage at the molecular, cellular, and organism level.
Our Section of Radiation Biology includes investigators Linda Metheny-Barlow, Jeffrey Willey and others. Our understanding of the biological mechanisms underlying radiation-induced damage will help to advance cancer therapy, to reduce normal tissue radiation injury, and to develop protection from bioterrorism.
