Dr. John Petty Named President-Elect of Pediatric Trauma Society

John Petty, MD, professor of surgical sciences – pediatrics and executive director of the Childress Institute for Pediatric Trauma, was recently named president-elect of the Pediatric Trauma Society (PTS), the largest national organization exclusively committed to the care of injured children.

Petty helped to start the first Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center in North Carolina – Atrium Health Levine Children's Brenner Children's Hospital – and he served as trauma medical director until 2024. He knows the joys and challenges of caring for injured children and firmly believes in the power of trauma center care to improve outcomes.

Petty has been a part of PTS since its inception and he has been involved as a member of the guidelines committee, publications committee and the diversity, equity and inclusion task force. He previously served as chair of the guidelines committee and member-at-large on the executive board for two terms. PTS is a growing, vibrant organization known for excellent science, trustworthy guidelines, meaningful education, and unbounded collegiality. He is honored to serve this great organization.

PTS is a professional organization for all health care providers interested in improving outcomes for injured children through development of optimal care guidelines, education, research and advocacy. PTS is the product of the collaborative vision of many pediatric trauma health care providers from around the world. PTS is working toward becoming the resource for both pediatric and adult trauma care providers to improve pediatric trauma care regardless of where injured children are cared for.
