Gabriela Velazquez, MD, FACS, associate professor of vascular and endovascular surgery, was recently chosen as a recipient of the 2025-2026 James IV Travelling Fellowship award.
This fellowship is designed to promote communication and collaboration in the surgical community. Traveler fellows are both ambassadors for their home countries and conduits for the dissemination of knowledge. They also promote collegiality and collaboration amongst the surgeon community.
Velazquez also serves as the director of the vascular surgery fellowship program at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. Her clinical practice includes prevention, evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of vascular surgery pathologies and its complications. Her academic interests and research are focused on renovascular and mesenteric disease, aorto-iliac occlusive disease, infected arterial grafts and surgical education, leadership and diversity and inclusion.
