Goldie Byrd, PhD, professor of social sciences and health policy, has been awarded the 2024 Bengt Winblad Lifetime Achievement Award at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference (AAIC) in Philadelphia. This award recognizes Byrd’s significant contributions to Alzheimer’s research and her lasting impact on the field. She was chosen from thousands of candidates for this honor.
As recipient of the Bengt Winblad Lifetime Achievement Award, Byrd is being honored for her focus on inclusion of special populations, particularly African Americans, in Alzheimer’s research and clinical trials. She has won numerous awards for her community-engaged research that addresses equity and inclusion in Alzheimer’s research. This includes a recent honor as a Most Influential Person of African Descent, for equity research, sponsored by the United Nations. The AAIC Lifetime Achievement Awards celebrate senior investigators who have dedicated their careers to making progress against Alzheimer’s and related dementias.
Byrd’s recognition at AAIC, which was attended by nearly 10,000 scientists and clinicians, highlights her enduring influence in the field. Her work continues to inspire the next generation of researchers, underscoring the vital role she plays in the ongoing battle against Alzheimer’s disease.
