About Me

I am a professor at the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine and in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. I serve as the chief and fellowship director of sports medicine.

My board certification is in orthopaedic surgery. I specialize in surgical and non-surgical sports medicine, cartilage restoration, athletic elbow care, knee joint preservation, patellofemoral pathology and knee osteotomy, including tibial tubercle, femoral and tibial corrections. Additionally, I provide ACL, PCL and multiligamentous knee reconstruction, open and arthroscopic management of elbow and knee pathologies and comprehensive shoulder care, including shoulder replacement and tendon transfer. I also provide pediatric and adolescent sports medicine.

My research interests include military personnel, shoulder joints, arthroscopy, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries, knee cartilage restorations and patellofemoral disorders.

My publications include more than 300 peer-reviewed research manuscripts and 20 book chapters. I have received the Researcher of the Year Award at William Beaumont Army Medical Center (WBAMC) on multiple occasions. I serve on the editorial board of the Arthroscopy Journal and the American Journal of Orthopaedics. Additionally, I serve on multiple committees through the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery (AAOS), the Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons (SOMOS) and the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA). I hold memberships in the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) and the American Shoulder and Elbow Society (ASES).

As a 13-year military veteran, I earned multiple honors during my service, including the Meritorious Service Medal and Army Commendation Medal. I completed a combat deployment with the 28th Combat Support Hospital to Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

I am the team physician for Wake Forest University Athletics, the Winston-Salem Dash and other athletic organizations. I previously served as the team physician for the Chicago Bulls and the Chicago White Sox.

I received my medical degree at Eastern Virginia Medical School. I completed residency in orthopaedic surgery through the U.S. Army at the combined program of William Beaumont Army Medical Center and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. I completed a fellowship in sports medicine at Rush University Medical Center and was selected for the American Orthopaedic Association (AOA) North American Traveling Fellowship and the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA) Advanced Arthroscopy Traveling Fellowship.
