About Me

“I am interested in the pathogenic pathway of degenerative retinal diseases, such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and diabetic retinopathy (DR).”

Yusuke Takahashi is an associate professor of biochemistry at Wake Forest University School of Medicine.

Subretinal fibrosis is a prominent pathological feature of neovascular AMD (nAMD), responsible for permanent vision loss, and remains untreatable. Takahashi’s group studies the underlying mechanism for subretinal fibrosis in nAMD and its association with Wnt signaling. They also study an interaction between PPARɑ and cGAS-STING signaling, a central regulator of the inflammatory response through cytosolic DNA sensor, in DR.
