About Me
I am a board-certified pediatrician and obesity medicine specialist. I have particular interest in working with entire families to change behavior, as well as working with community organizations who have the same goals. I am founder and director of Brenner FIT® (Families In Training), a family-based pediatric obesity program; we are active in clinical care, research, education, and community outreach.
I conduct research focused on attrition from and adherence to treatment, and how to incorporate the entire family system into health care. I also teach medical students in a field called Culinary Medicine, which is a way to improve nutrition and health through cooking. I spend most of my free time with my wife, a surgical pharmacist at Wake Forest Baptist, and my two teenage sons. We like to cook and eat with my extended family and friends, who live all over North Carolina, from the beach (Wilmington) to the mountains (Asheville).
