About Me
Dr. Adia K. Ross is the chief medical officer at Atrium Wake Forest Baptist High Point Medical Center in High Point, NC, where she oversees patient safety and quality, provider experience and care models and several service lines. Dr. Ross recently served as the chief medical officer at Duke Regional Hospital. She has held a variety of roles over the span of her career, including overseeing quality and safety, physician and APP practices, case management and resident education. She has also served as the service line executive for both heart/vascular services and oncology. Prior to her 2 chief medical officer roles, she was the practice medical director for hospital medicine at Duke Raleigh Hospital and previously served as the medical director of the Duke Health Transfer Center.
Throughout her time as a physician leader, she has maintained a clinical practice, remains an associate professor and has taught residents, medical students and PA students. She has served as a lecturer for both medical student and faculty courses on leadership, both locally and nationally. She also previously served as the associate program director for the Duke University Hospital Administrative Fellowship Program for resident physicians and the Duke Health Management and Leadership Pathway for Residents (MLPR).
With a background in internal medicine and healthcare administration, she earned her medical degree and a master's degree in healthcare administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She completed her residency and administrative fellowship at Duke University Hospital.
Dr. Ross was recognized as a "40 under 40" winner by the Triangle Business Journal in 2019, was a 2023 Carol Emmott Fellow and was recently named one of the Top 10 Chief Medical Officers in the country by MedTech Magazine in 2023.
She actively engages with the healthcare community, serving on the NC Hospital Association's (NCHA) Physician Advisory Board and NCHA Foundation Board and previously served on the board of Central Carolina Hospital. She is the chair of the Society of Hospital Medicine National Practice Management Committee and serves on the American Hospital Association’s Committee on Clinical Leadership.
Dr. Ross is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, National Association of Healthcare Executives and the Society of Hospital Medicine.
