About Me

I am the Associate Dean for Faculty Development. In this role, I am developing, implementing, and enhancing programs that maximize the potential of our many faculty members. I bring a breadth of experience to this new position, including leadership roles in the clinical, education, and research missions, which give me unique abilities to serve the needs of our diverse faculty.

I completed my Anesthesiology Residency and Pain Medicine Fellowship training at Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions. Following my faculty leadership roles at Johns Hopkins, the University of Florida, and the Medical College of Wisconsin, I was recruited by the Wake Forest School of Medicine faculty in the Department of Anesthesiology in 2017 to redevelop and lead pain services across the health systems. In addition to that role, I currently serve as the Executive Director for the Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Pain Service Line. I lead the Pain and Spine Specialists group in their clinical care of all patients in our health system.

I transitioned from basic science research training in pain neurobiology to an active clinical translational and clinical informatics research program funded by numerous NIH, AHRQ, DOD, and industry sponsors. The many facets of this work at Wake Forest School of Medicine naturally connect me across missions and departments, giving me grassroots understanding of faculty development needs.

I have participated in multiple academic and professional leadership training and mentorship programs, including the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Fellowship. My publication record includes more than 130 manuscripts. I am the editor of the two major pain textbooks, the Editor-in-Chief of Pain Medicine Journal and serve on the Executive Board of Directors for AAPM. I have guided the careers of more than 40 faculty mentees and received the Exemplary Teacher’s Award while on the faculty at the University of Florida College of Medicine
