About Me

I am a professor of social sciences and health policy at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. My interests include post-acute stroke care, hypertension management, epilepsy care, obesity prevention, pediatric primary care and prenatal and antenatal care.

I design, test and implement new care delivery models that focus on prevention and better coordination across the continuum to achieve patient- and family-centered outcomes.

My research interests include intervention science, patient satisfaction, social support, community engagement, sedentary lifestyle and physical activity. I have a particular interest in studying Hispanic Americans.

I serve as the director of leadership development programs for Women in Medicine and Science (WIMS). Additionally, I am affiliated with the Clinical and Translational Science Institute, the Maya Angelou Center for Health Equity, the Department of Implementation Science and the Center on Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism.

I received a bachelor’s degree in education at Vassar College and a master’s degree and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at the University of Notre Dame.
