About Me

I am a fellowship-trained neurosurgeon specializing in complex and minimally invasive spine surgery as well as peripheral nerve surgery. My highest priority is providing compassionate, patient-centered care. To me, that means meeting patients where they are in life—considering the whole person, not just the technical aspects of their condition. I emphasize conservative management when appropriate and prioritize motion-sparing or minimally invasive surgical options whenever possible. The goal of any surgery is to improve quality of life, whether that means relieving pain, restoring strength, correcting deformity, or regaining function.

I was born and raised in North Carolina and completed a Bachelor of Science in Biology at Duke University, followed by an MD/PhD at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. It was during this time that I developed a passion for neurosurgery, completing my dissertation on the molecular biology of Cerebral Cavernous Malformations, a genetic cause of stroke.

UNC was an outstanding training environment, and I was fortunate to match into neurosurgery residency at Washington University in St. Louis — one of the nation’s top programs. During residency, I saw the suffering experienced by patients with nerve and spinal cord injuries. This led me to pursue a dedicated year-long fellowship with the Plastic Surgery Department, focusing on peripheral nerve reconstruction. During my time at Washington University I published numerous high impact peer-reviewed articles in the fields of peripheral nerve and spine surgery.

Knowing I wanted to return to North Carolina, I was honored to complete a fellowship at Duke with Dr. Christopher Shaffrey — one of the world’s foremost spine surgeons—for advanced training in complex and minimally invasive spine surgery. My goal has always been to combine technical excellence with academic leadership, and I am now proud to be part of the multidisciplinary team at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist. I also serve as a faculty member training the next generation of surgeons.

Winston-Salem has become a great home for me, my wife, and our two young children. I am committed to building long-term partnerships with my patients, no matter how complex their condition. Tough problems can require tough solutions — but I promise every patient that I will never give up on their care. We will get it done.
