Call Schedule
The call schedule is in rotation with the attendings, and call is taken roughly 2 weekdays and 1 weekend of call per month. The fellow can expect to perform 3-6 ruptured globe repairs per year, and staff resident cataract surgeries when needed.
Learning Abroad
Twice per year, the fellow is able to accompany the residency program in Honduras. During this time, the fellow may perform manual small incision cataract surgery (MSICS) and a variety of corneal transplants. Though not a requirement of the fellowship, these trips are an excellent educational opportunity. The program receives corneal tissue from CorneaGen. Wet labs to practice surgical skills and try new techniques can be arranged through SightLife & CorneaGen.
