Athletic Training Fellowship Application Process

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for the Athletic Training Fellowship program, the applicant must meet these requirements:

Education

  • Minimum: An undergraduate or graduate degree is required from an accredited Athletic Training Education Program
    • Preferred: Master’s Degree in a healthcare-related field 

Required Licenses/Certifications

  • Minimum: 
    • Certified Athletic Trainer with current BOC certification
    • North Carolina Board Athletic Training Examiners Athletic Training Licensure or eligibility for Athletic Training Licensure in North Carolina
    • Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation
  • Preferred:
    • Eligible to sit for the Orthopaedic Technologist (OTC) Exam in November or current OTC certification through the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT)

Application Process

We accept applications from Dec. 1 to March 1. Any application received after March 1 will not be reviewed. Onsite interviews take place in late April. If accepted, we will notify you in May with a start date in early July.

Submitting an Application

  • Cover Letter – This should specify why you are interested in this educational opportunity, what makes you a good candidate as an athletic trainer in the physician setting, how you plan to use the successful completion of this fellowship in your career.

  • Reference List
  • Three Letters of Recommendation – It is preferred that letters are included with application materials in sealed envelopes, however, they will be accepted separately if applicants name is clearly identified and received by the deadline.
