Submitting an Application
Prospective students interested in pursuing the MD program are required to apply through the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS), the American Association of Medical Colleges’ (AAMC’s) centralized medical school application processing service. Only applications that are verified by AMCAS are processed to the Office of Admissions.
Required Documents
All of the following must be submitted through the AMCAS application to be considered:
- Transcripts
- Work experience, extracurricular activities, awards
- Letters of Evaluation (All letters of evaluation are due November 30, 2021)
- Personal Comments essay
- MCAT® exam scores
Letters of Evaluation
All letters of evaluation should be submitted via the AMCAS Letter Service. The Committee on Admissions prefers a Premedical Committee report or letter packet. While the Medical School Admissions Requirements (MSAR) lists 6 as the maximum number of letters we accept, your file is marked as complete once your letter packet/committee letter or two letters of recommendation are received.
Secondary Application
When the AMCAS application is verified, applicants will receive instructions by email for completing the Wake Forest University School of Medicine MD Secondary Application. Please note that secondary applications may not be sent until mid-July.
Applicants must have a 502 MCAT and a 3.2 science/BCPM GPA to be sent a secondary application. Applicants who do not meet the undergraduate science GPA of a 3.2 and have completed at least 15 hours of either post-baccalaureate or graduate science coursework be reviewed by the Dean of Admissions upon receipt of the secondary application. The highest MCAT attempt is reviewed.
There is a $125 Secondary Application fee. The $125 secondary application fee is waived for those who receive the AMCAS fee waiver. We highly recommend that students review the previous year’s class profile to determine if their application is competitive and if returning a secondary application is in their best interest. Secondary applications due by November 30, 2021; however, it is in an applicant’s best interest to turn it in as soon as possible for review purposes. We accept Visa, MC and Discover for the application fee.
Application Review and Processing
Before your file can be marked complete and ready for review by the Committee on Admissions you must
- Return your secondary application, including Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) scores
- Upload all letters of evaluation to AMCAS
- Release your CASPer scores to Wake Forest University School of Medicine
The Office of Student Admissions does not accept grade or coursework updates after the AMCAS application has been submitted. You can submit updates through your applicant portal to be placed in your file, but we cannot guarantee that it will be reviewed by the Committee on Admissions.
Applications marked complete will be reviewed continuously through the interview season (August through March).
Interview Process
Wake Forest University School of Medicine is requiring invited applicants to complete a virtual interview. You are encouraged to prepare for this in the same way you would prepare for an in-person interview. There is no fee to complete the virtual interview.
It is required for all applicants invited to interview to complete the virtual interview and virtual session before having their application reviewed by our Committee on Admissions for a final decision. Invites for interview will be sent on a rolling basis between August and March. Applicants should complete the virtual interview prior to attending their virtual session. Failure to complete these requirements in the prescribed timeframe will lead to the applicant’s application being withdrawn from consideration.
