On March 10th & 11th, Wake Forest University School of Medicine hosted a Second Look event for the Class of 2027 accepted applicants. Second Look offers accepted applicants greater insight into academic programming and unique opportunities offer by WFUSM. In total, 102 accepted applicants and 115 guests attended the event.
On Friday evening the event kicked off with a social that gave attendees the opportunity to meet with their future classmates and mingle with current medical students in a casual, relaxed atmosphere.
The following day began with a welcome from Dr. Ebony Boulware followed by Dr. Jennie Lou providing an overview of our "Wake Ready" curriculum. Accepted students then participated in Faculty Speed Meetings while their families attended sessions designed to provide them with information on what to expect and how to support their future medical student followed by a student led panel on housing and living in Winston Salem.
During lunch, students and their families had the opportunity to learn more about 22 of the student organizations during the organization fair. Shortly after the break, students returned for the afternoon to a session presented by Dr. Tarantino on the WFUSM Charlotte Campus followed by career advising by Dr. McBride.
Accepted applicants then had the opportunity to participate in concurrent experiential sessions. The CEAL team ran simulations for Labor & Delivery, Ultrasound, and Respiratory/Cardiac while medical students led iCRIT sessions.
The day ended with trolley tours of downtown and informative sessions on DEAC, presented by medical students, and CPPD presented by Dr. Cheraton Love.
Financial aid was available throughout the weekend to answer questions from accepted applicants, parents & guardians.
We are grateful to all the medical students, faculty, & CEAL team who participated and made the event successful!
