About Me

As an expert in the field of angiogenesis, I am studying ways to enhance the vascularization and innervation of bioengineered tissues using growth factors and circulating endothelial progenitor cells in angiogenesis. 

My lab is developing new approaches to enhance the growth of blood vessels and nerves into engineered or regenerated tissue by:

  • Incorporation of angiogenic and neurogenic factors in the bioengineered tissue
  • Seeding the scaffolds of the engineered tissue with endothelial or neuronal progenitor cells
  • Pre-vascularization of scaffolds prior to cell seeding.

Our research contributions are the integration of molecular and cellular biology principles in regenerative medicine applications. Recently, we applied our expertise to developing 3D small tissue constructs to allow testing of new drugs without the need to tests in animals and as models for disease such as cancer. This technology will allow to develop new drugs for treating cancer patients and also to test the effects of the treatments on cancer cells from each individual patient.
