Both the Winston-Salem Campus and Wake Forest Innovation Quarter have witnessed the advance of technology – in the realm of health care and in everyday life. Built in the 1920s, the hospital and the former tobacco manufacturing plant have come far from their beginnings, and students, researchers and faculty at Wake Forest School of Medicine have access to the latest technology available for health care and education.

Center for Experiential and Applied Learning

The Center for Experiential and Applied Learning (CEAL) uses a variety of advanced technical resources to create the safest possible learning environment for students while preparing them thoroughly in high-quality, patient-centered care.

Teleconferencing and Distance Learning

Education programs in Innovation Quarter feature the latest in teleconference learning spaces and multi-use rooms and study spaces. This accommodates team-based learning and allows students to collaborate without being constrained by physical distances. As telemedicine expands, WFSM students will have experience with and be comfortable navigating that aspect of health care.

Distance and online education also will allow for more varied continuing professional development and encourage access to lifelong learning.

Deacon Gallery

Using the future to look to the past, the Deacon Gallery is located on the first floor of the Bowman Gray Center for Medical Education and allows visitors to view images from the School of Medicine’s history. Composed of interactive screens, artifacts and images, the gallery will connect alumni, highlight educational programs and the international impact of the School of Medicine.

The user-friendly screens allow guests to search the alumni database, scroll through more than 70 years of yearbooks, view a timeline dating back to 1902 and create a mosaic that offers the option to select certain photos to be emailed.
