MD Alumni Weekend ’21 is Now Virtual

Dear MD Alumni:

As you are aware, COVID cases have once again surged and the spread is significant, causing drain on our health systems and our communities. I am writing to share with you the difficult decision that we will be changing MD Alumni Weekend ’21 to a virtual only event—no in-person activities or gatherings. The dates for the virtual event will remain October 15-17. While we are disappointed to have to forego our in-person event, I believe, with consultation and input from our health system and School of Medicine leadership, that this is the needed approach at this time.

In the coming days and weeks, you will receive additional information, by mail and email, on our revised schedule for the virtual events. If you have not registered for MD Alumni Weekend, I encourage you to do so, whether by returning the registration form which will soon be mailed to you or by signing up online.

All of the virtual events are offered free of charge. If you have already paid for the Medical Alumni Association (MAA) Celebration Dinner and/or your class reunion dinner, we hope that you will consider donating this payment to the MAA Annual Fund, for which we will send you a charitable gift receipt. If you do not wish to redirect your payment as a donation, we will issue a refund made in the same form as the original payment.

While it will not be the same as in person, I am confident our alumni will still enjoy celebrating and connecting with each other through our virtual programming, including:

  • Medical Alumni Association Celebration Presentation: Honoring Distinguished Awards Recipients and Bowman Gray Society Inductees
  • Conversation with the Dean
  • Reunion Class Happy Hour (or two!)
  • Update on COVID-19 Prevention and Treatment
  • Virtual Tour of Bowman Gray Center for Medical Education

Thank you for understanding and flexing with us as we change plans to keep our alumni, community and staff safe during this relentless pandemic. If you have questions, please email us at alumni@wakehealth.edu

Sincerely,
