Dr. Stacey Quintero Wolfe, MD, FAANS, is Professor of Neurological Surgery and Radiology, Residency Program Director, and Director of Neurointerventional Surgery at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. She graduated from the University of Missouri’s six-year BA/MD program and completed neurosurgical residency at the University of Miami, including fellowships in Cerebrovascular/Skull Base and Endovascular surgery. Dr. Wolfe previously served as a Commander and Chief of Neurosurgery in the United States Navy at Tripler Army Medical Center.
Dr. Wolfe specializes in cerebrovascular disease and leads research in open and endovascular treatments for ischemic and hemorrhagic neurovascular pathology, including aneurysms, AVMs, dural fistulae, moyamoya disease, cavernomas, carotid disease, and stroke. She has authored over 75 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. Dr. Wolfe is an editorial reviewer for leading journals and has held numerous national leadership positions in neurosurgical organizations. Her humanitarian work has been recognized with public service citations for neurosurgical outreach in Haiti, Venezuela, and Nicaragua.
Goals of the Lab
- Develop molecular and genomic models of cerebrovascular diseases including AVMs and aneurysms.
- Investigate KRAS mutations in sporadic AVMs and the genetics of human cerebral aneurysms.
- Examine immune phenotypes following intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) in hypertensive animal models.
- Advance techniques in minimally invasive stroke intervention and endovascular neurosurgery.
- Foster translational collaborations to bridge bench research and clinical outcomes.
- Train and mentor medical students and residents in cutting-edge cerebrovascular research.
Awards and Highlights
- NREF Medical Student Summer Research Grant: Supported research in KRAS mutations in AVMs and immune phenotypes in ICH (awarded in 2019, 2020).
- CTSI Grant: For immune phenotype investigation following ICH in a hypertensive model.
- Austen L. Dunn and Christopher C. Getch Chair of Research ($40,000): For mechanoreceptor research in cerebral aneurysm development, sponsored by the CV Section.
