The Luo laboratory primarily focuses on viral and host factors that determine the outcomes of hepatitis B (HBV), C (HCV), and D (HDV) virus and flavivirus (Dengue and Zika viruses) infection, replication, pathogenesis, and carcinogenesis in cell culture and in mouse models.
The overall goal of our research programs is to search for a cure of chronic hepatitis B and D and to identify novel antiviral targets and new classes of antiviral drugs. Additionally, the lab is interested in the discovery of therapeutics targeting hepatic cancer stem cells and investigation of molecular virology and virus-host interactions of other important human viral pathogens including SARS-CoV-2 and influenza virus.
