The Order of the Eastern Star and WFIRM

Since 2015, together we have been changing the future of medicine forever – for us, for our children and for the generations to come. By supporting research at WFIRM, the OES is pushing the promise of regenerative medicine forward.

Who is WFIRM?

The Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine (WFIRM) is the only regenerative medicine facility in the world where all research and development work is conducted under one roof, allowing researchers to both develop new treatments and direct clinical studies that can lead to widespread availability. WFIRM scientists were the first in the world to successfully grow and implant a laboratory-grown organ into humans (bladder); today more than 40 different organs and tissues are in development in the laboratory.

What is Regenerative Medicine?

Regenerative medicine works to replace or restore function to damaged or diseased tissues and organs and provide treatments for many of today’s most devastating diseases and injuries – including those currently classified as untreatable. Regenerative medicine has the power to help everyone – to change the world of medicine as we know it today.

Driven by the urgent needs of patients all over the world, we have one focus – to make patients’ lives better. More than 550 scientists, clinicians, faculty and students from 64 different countries work together at WFIRM and we collaborate with researchers and physicians from Alaska to Florida, from New York to California. WFIRM currently collaborates with more than 500 universities, medical centers, military hospitals, and labs across the globe with more added every day.
